Salvation

Updated: Jul 23, 2021

Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is going to heaven. This is true for Catholics and Protestants.

The standard Lorem Ipsum passage, used since the 1500s

CB “Catholic Bible Fireside School and church Edition."

CCC "Catechism Of The Catholic Church.”

The scripture says that salvation was completed on the cross, and baptism is an outward sign of the “finished work" by Jesus in the newborn-again believer. This is confirmed in John 19:30 [CB] page 173 New Testament "Jesus said, "It is finished." "He bowed His head and gave up his spirit."

So, my question is, what was finished? First, I went to the [CB] Catholic Bible of John 20;19-30. There was no mention in the Catholic commentary on page 173 of what Jesus meant by "It is finished."

In Greek, the word is "tetelestai" which is an accounting/bookkeeping term meaning "paid in full." Signed and sealed because of the blood of Jesus.

"It is finished" means there was no more price to be paid for sin, nothing could be added by us such as baptism. It took Jesus himself to cancel the debt we owe for our sins.

John 17;4 (CB) page 169 New Testament" Jesus said, I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do."

Luke 19;10 (CB) page 131 New Testament For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."

Romans 3;23-25; CB page 221 New Testament "All have sinned..."

Now if baptism is required to complete salvation, then we are saying the sacrifice of Christ was not finished, it requires the work of baptism. We can not add a thing to what Jesus did, we can only receive His free gift to us of eternal life. Are works are like filthy rags. See Isaiah quoted on the next page.

Who has the authority over the Church?

CB Page 322 New Testament "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness [2 Timothy 3-16]

CCC Teaches that the interpretation of Scripture is ultimately subject to the judgment of the church, the pope, and the bishops (100,119] Scripture does not say this. The following verses are very clear. 2 Timothy 2:15 [CB page 321 New Testament] In the King James Version of the Bible it says "Study to show thyself approved..." Personal study is mandatory to protect from false doctrine.

Does salvation depend on your good works?

CB Salvation is a totally free gift. [ Romans 8:30] [CB page 227 New Testament "To the man who does not work, but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness." Isaiah 64;4-9 "... [CB page 909 Old Testament) all our deeds (works) are like polluted rags: we have all withered like leaves." Ephesians 2:8-9 (CB) page 287 New Testament] For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not for you: it is the free gift of God: It is not from works so no one may boasts..." We have been saved to good works. Our salvation cannot depend on our works [Isaiah 64:4-9) CB [page 909 Old Testament]

CB continues (Romans 12:6] "Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us exercise them. (the additional verse outlines the motivational gifts of works given to each believer in Christ at the point of salvation to exercise as a" living sacrifice" in the service (works] of our Lord Jesus Christ. [Romans 12;1-2] [ CB page 231 New Testament]

CCC Teaches that man is justified by repeating the sacraments and works because man has lost their salvation each time a mortal sin is committed. What is a moral sin? This will be covered under the topic Eternal Security topic. The sacrament of penance offers a new possibility to recover your lost salvation. [ CCC 1446, 1447] teaches man is saved by good works, in order to attain their own salvation and to cooperate in saving their brothers.

Catholic infuses. To start and IV. An injection. To administer a solution by infusion in someone. The reciting of a Sacrament .

Salvation imputes. Imputed through personal faith. It is on the basis of Jesus' righteousness that God accepts humans. This is "justification" [definition, To credit to a persons account, assign, attribute to a person. 2 Timothy 3;15 CB page 322 New Testament states clearly that "...the scriptures are capable of giving you wisdom for salvation through faith."
