Catholic Pope: is his Authority Biblical?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(CCC) quoted from the "Catechism of the Catholic Church."

[CB] Quoted from the revised edition of the "Catholic Bible Fireside School and Church Edition."

The purpose of these presentations:

To outline the differences between Rome Catholicism and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Catholics and protestants agree that the Gospels are "God-breathed" [2 Timothy 3;16] [CB page 322] infallible inerrant Word of God. Does Rome follow the Gospels closely in their teachings and preaching, or is there another Gospel being presented by Rome? [Galatians 1:8-9] [CB page 277 New Testament]

What I will share is going to offend some of you. Please read and consider what Rome has said and what the gospel in the Bible says.

Let me start with some scripture.

AIE

1 Thessalonians 5;21-22 [CB Page 308 New Testament] “says we are to test all things against scripture."

The apostle Paul states in Galatians 1; 6 (CB page 277] Which teaches that "there is no other gospel other than what I have preached. If so, let that person be eternally condemned" [paraphrased] The Roman Catholic Church, the pope is called the "Holy Father and the Vicar of Christ” The pope's past and present claim the ability to speak Godlike infallibility.

► to add to this discussion Scripture says Revelation 22;18 ]CB Page 400 New Testament] warns against adding anything, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. The pope claims the ability to wield unbiblical, unholy authority over his followers, usurping (def of "usurping" "taking the place of someone"] the headship of Christ 1 Timothy 2;5 Paul says: [CB page 315 New Testament] "For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" [I will deal with the Virgin Mary later, she is considered a mediator]

The pope usurped (taken the place] the headship of Christ, Is this the gospel?

► The pope is not infallible. > He promotes participating in your salvation by your good works. Idols and relics are promoted as well > Prayers for the dead. > If not sure you're saved, a safety net was created call purgatory. It's a second chance after

death.

► Forced celibacy and Idol worship.

William Tindale was burned at the stake by the pope for translating the Bible into English.

Bloody Mary (1553-1558 a terrible 5 years; that began 7-yrs after Luther and she restored the papacy of Rome. All Bibles were removed from churches. All Bible printing ceased. It became a crime. All Bible reading was forbidden. 800 ministers fled to Geneva. She killed 283 protestants.

The first one was John Rogers. Who took the Tyndale translation and translated it in English, called the Mathew Bible, and was burned at the stake for what he did?

Ephesians 1:20-22;"..Christ is about every principality, authority...." CB New Testament page 287] Ephesians 5:23 “...Christ is the head of the church...” CB page 291 New Testament] Colossians 2:10; "...Christ is the head of the church." CB page 302 New Testament]

The claims of the Papacy (pope)

The Catholic Catechism states, "The task of interpreting the Word of God authentically has been entrusted solely to the "Magisterium." [Oversight of the church teaching] and the pope and bishops in communion with him. [CCC #100] I'm paraphrasing what Cardinal Gibbons wrote in his book” Faith of our Fathers" Published in 1980 page 78. “The Catholic Church teaches that the Lord Jesus gave spiritual authority to Saint Peter and to his successors throughout the ages. This means that Saint Peter took the place of Jesus with honor, jurisdiction, and rulership. According to Rome, this is confirmed in Matthew 16:18-19 [CB page 41 New Testament] “And I say to you, you are Peter and upon this rock, I will build my Church..." and John 21:15-17 CB page 175 " ... Yes Lord you know that I love you. He said to him "Feed my sheep." He was setting Peter apart as the pastor of all Christians in a matter different from the other apostle.

Rome goes on to say,[ Pope Boniface in November 18, 1302"] ... That it is necessary to salvation for every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff. This means that Roman has the absolute authority to trump and interpret Scripture and not "Scripture alone." Does Rome have this right? No, 2 Timothy 3:16 CB page 322 New Testament

Read Matthew very carefully CB page 42 New Testament Matthew 16:22-23 "Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "God forbid, Lord no such thing shall ever happen to you. He [Jesus) turned to him and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan You are an obstacle to me. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do." Does this sound like Peter was infallible, as popes are said to be?

Following this Peter will dishonor His Lord when Jesus was on trial. CB Matthew 26:31-35 page 63 New Testament. Now go to CB Matthew 26:69-75. Page 65 New Testament] Again does this sound like an infallible pope?

In Galatians 2:11 CB page279 New Testament we see Paul's willingness to issue a direct rebuke for Peter's behavior in Antioch when Peter withdrew from the table fellowship with the Gentiles. Let's read these verses, "And when Cephas (Peter) came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face because he clearly was wrong...." Does this sound like an infallible Pope? Nowhere in Scripture is the office of Pope stated.

Finally, go to CB page 359 New Testament 1 Peter 5:1-2 "So I exhort the "presbyters" [ translated elders) among you as fellow presbyters and witnesses to the sufferings of Christ and one who has a share in the glory to be revealed. Tend the flock......" Here Peter does not speak as a Pope, but as a fellow elder.

You must be saved out of this system.
